By Christopher Alexander. By Christopher Alexander and Noah Richard. A Cappella,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,World. 24 pages. Christopher Alexander #1085672. Published by Christopher Alexander (A0.1510475).This is the third movement from the extended choral work Rising from the Ashes: Stories of Lahaina.
The three drums kick off this effervescent work, creating a joyful rhythmic cadence upon which the the choir sings. The inspiring text lifts the spirits of the singers and audience alike as the harmonies propel through slight modulations and resolutions to the original key. The work moves swiftly into a mele hula (dance that tells or depicts a story) about the Phoenix bird rising from its ashes and beginning to live a new life for itself. With a call and response setting transcending into the melodic treatment, the eight voices create a powerful and triumphant ending to this song.
Full score and other movements (On That Night, Forever Anew, Kama'aina) also available for purchase.
